The Tuskegee study, also known as the Tuskegee syphilis experiment, was a study conducted by the United States Public Health Service from 1932 to 1972 in which African American men who had contracted syphilis were intentionally left untreated so that the natural progression of the disease could be observed. Many of the men suffered severe health complications and some even died as a result of the study.
