During meiosis II, the sister chromatids of each chromosome are separated from each other, resulting in the formation of four haploid cells. This is different from meiosis I where homologous chromosomes separate, resulting in the formation of two haploid cells. Cytokinesis also occurs during meiosis II, but it only results in the division of the cytoplasm and does not affect the separation of sister chromatids. Homologous chromosomes do not pair during meiosis II. Sister chromatids do not exchange parts during meiosis II, though they can during meiosis I through a process called crossing over.
