Acute theophylline intoxication results in nausea/vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, cardiac arrhythmias, and seizures. Seizures are the major cause of morbidity and mortality in theophylline intoxication. Tachyarrhythmias are the other major concern but usually do not cause QT prolongation.
