Anonymity refers to the condition where the identity of research subjects is unknown to the researcher or anyone else. This is often achieved by not collecting any identifying information from the subjects, or by collecting identifying information but then destroying it or separating it from the data as soon as it is received. If the researcher cannot link any responses to a specific subject, then the subjects are said to have been granted anonymity.
