Hyperintensity on DWI indicates a focus of restricted diffusion, seen in acute and early subacute infarctions (ischemic stroke). Metastatic disease would be suspected if multiple lesions were present (and these would usually not be seen on the DWI sequence). AVM is not indicated because no positive mass effect from acute bleeding or hypointensity from hemosiderin at an old hemorrhage is present. MS is not appropriate because no white matter disease is shown.
