A 50-year-old woman complaining of severe "pins and needles" in her right hand and lateral fingers visited her physician. She said that she had experienced difficulty in buttoning up her clothes when dressing. On physical examination the patient pointed to her thumb and index, middle, and ring fingers as the areas where she felt discomfort. No objective impairment of sensation was found in these areas.
