Apply moist,fine-mesh,open-weave gauze as a single layer directly onto the wound surface.If wound is deep,gently pack gauze into wound with sterile gloved hand or forceps until all wound surfaces are in contact with moist gauze.Be sure gauze does not touch periwound skin.Moisture that escapes the dressing often macerates the periwound area.The gauze should be saturated with the prescribed solution,wrung out,unfolded,and lightly packed into the wound.Overpacking the wound may cause pressure on tissue in the wound bed.
