The Prague Spring was an attempt at political liberalization in Czechoslovakia in 1968, which was ultimately suppressed by the Soviet Union and its allies, including the Red Army. While it did spark some reforms and changes, it did not permanently end communism or establish a long-lasting democratic government. East Germany and Romania were among the countries that supported the Soviet invasion, and Mikhail Gorbachev did not come to power until more than a decade later.
