IFN-gamma is primarily produced by TH1 cells, which are a subset of CD4+ T cells that primarily produce pro-inflammatory cytokines. TH2 cells, on the other hand, primarily produce anti-inflammatory cytokines. While macrophages can also produce IFN-gamma, they usually require stimulation by TH1 cytokines to do so.
