Without them, the body will not be able to detect low oxygen levels in the brain, which can lead to a range of symptoms including dizziness, shortness of breath, and even loss of consciousness. The removal of carotid bodies does not affect the CO₂ concentration of blood, which is not sensed by the carotid bodies.
