Arthropods Have Hardened Exoskeletons That Provide Protection from Desiccation and Some

Arthropods have hardened exoskeletons that provide protection from desiccation and some predators. Arthropods have indeterminate growth-that is, as long as they keep molting and expanding their cuticle/exoskeleton, they will get bigger with each molt. Why don't we see grasshoppers the size of large birds (or larger) ?

A) There is a limit to the size that can be achieved because a large thin exoskeleton would be easier to damage.
B) There is not enough food to support a grasshopper of this size.
C) The increased surface area would make it more likely that the grasshopper would suffer from desiccation.
D) Grasshoppers do not regulate their body temperature, so when it is cold their metabolism is slow. As a consequence, they cannot grow for most of the year and do not achieve large size.
