During the Great Depression period, the radio became more popular and showed an increase in ownership to 12 million households in 1929. It has helped to provide entertainment and news to the remote parts of the United States. Thus, it helped to increase the popularity of radio over a period of time.
By 1920, the radio begins to broadcast sporting events and local entertainment shows in their channels. By 1940s, more than 1,400 radio stations were existed in the United States with more than 95 percent of households carrying one or more radios. Thus, Great Depression contributed towards the growth of radio.
