Mitotic cell division is the means by which animal cells reproduce themselves during embryonic development, growth, and repair. Mitotic (nuclear) and cytoplasmic divisions of a parent cell produce two daughter cells that are genetically identical to the parental cells.
Why is mitotic cell division of a diploid cell useful for growth and repair processes but not useful in the production of egg and sperm cells?
