Critical thinking is the ability to reason and solve problems using facts and concepts. These questions can be approached from a number of angles and, in most cases, they do not have a single correct answer.
A young couple brings their 7-month- old daughter to the pediatrician. The doctor identifies that the baby is suffering from Haemophilus influenzae and Pseudomonas infection and, additionally, has oral thrush (candidiasis). Blood tests reveal that the infant suffers from agammaglobulinemia. Explain which type of lymphocyte is malfunctioning in this baby, and discuss why her symptoms took so long after birth to develop.
