Mr. Hubenthal maintained that large amounts of scrap materials, such as tires, wood, metal, leather, and solid waste, were necessary for a successful worm operation. The 55 acres were "messy, smelly, and germy," as described by the neighbors. The county attorney called the farm a nuisance and warned Mr. Hubenthal that he had 30 days to clean up the farm.
