Michael Moore and Cuba
In the United States, the cost of medications to treat common chronic illnesses has escalated so tremendously that many patients stop taking essential medications because they can no longer afford them, whereas in other countries, the cost of the same medication is often less than $1.00. Michael Moore makes this point in " Sicko ," his widely debated documentary which spotlights the advanced system of health care in Cuba. In the aftermath of 9/11, many Ground Zero firefighters developed chronic lung problems. They could not afford the respiratory medications and inhalers needed to simply breathe, but in Cuba, and as " Sicko " dramatically reveals, firefighters were given the same medications for a fraction of the cost they would have paid in the United States.
How does obtaining medication at a low cost in Cuba strike you? Is it a feasible ( sensible ) idea? Why or why not?
