Who Are "Normal" Employees?
Assume your company has just adopted the form shown in Skill-Building Exercise 18.1 for its performance evaluation system. Assume further that your company has also instituted a policy that every manager's performance appraisals must conform to the accompanying bell-shaped curve. Using this curve, a manager that has 10 employees would have one that would be ranked as excellent, one that would be ranked above average, six that would be ranked average, one that would be ranked as below average, and one that would be ranked unsatisfactory.
Prepare a 10-minute presentation summarizing the problems, advantages, and disadvantages of using such a system.
