A patient arrives in the emergency department around 3:00 a.m. with a severe burning sensation in his chest. The patient is anxious and thinks he is having a heart attack. All vital signs are within normal limits, and no other pain or discomfort is noted in other regions of the body. He states he ate a large bowl of spicy spaghetti around 11:30 p.m. Before falling asleep, he was uncomfortable and felt his large volume of food hadn't digested. He also states this burning sensation has happened in the past after eating, especially at night and when lying on his right side.
