Marketing research refers to the function of gathering actionable data and intelligence about a market from different primary and secondary sources with the aim of building an effective and efficient marketing plan.

Marketing research provides an organization with a roadmap upon which it can build a marketing strategy since marketing research helps manager understand the market and audience better in terms of interests, requirements etc.
