Cistern Company is a wholesaler of plumbing fixtures and related products. The company's large inventory extends throughout three warehouse buildings designated A-Shed, B-Shed, and C-Shed. Inventory records include a 15-digit item number and a 30-character product description.
One of the buildings (C-Shed) is divided into bays, numbered 1 to 50 for the storage of large items, such as bathtubs, prefabricated shower stalls, sinks, toilets, and lengths of pipe. The other two buildings (A and B) are lined with four-tier shelves for the storage of small items, such as faucets, elbow joints, ball cocks, and cans of jointing compound. These two building have aisles (as opposed to bays), which are numbered 1 to 20. The position of each item in buildings A and B is designated by a location code consisting of the shelf (A to D) and the shelf compartment (1 to 50). For example, "B-25" corresponds to shelf B, compartment 25.
