ETHICS ISSUE 1: As citizens and as professionals with special training and experience, health care practitioners are ethically obligated to assist in the administration of justice. If a patient who has a legal claim requests a health care practitioner's assistance, he or she should furnish medical evi­dence, with the patient's consent, in order to secure the patient's legal rights.
Medical experts should have recent and substantive experience in the area in which they testify and should limit testimony to their sphere of medical expertise.
In your opinion, is it ever ethical for a health care practitioner to testify against another health care practitioner in a medical malpractice lawsuit? Explain your answer.
