Peter Puffer is an 11-year-old boy with no known history of asthma, although he does have a history of bronchitis during which he has had episodes of wheezing. Peter has had respiratory symptoms and fever since Monday morning and now has increasing respiratory distress on the day of admission. He was seen in the office of Dr. Neumo who reported tightness in the chest. Pulse oximetry revealed an O 2 saturation of 83 %. Peter was therefore sent to the hospital, treated overnight with oxygen, intravenous aminophylline and Bronkosol, as well as IV Zinacef. He appears to be more comfortable at this point with less tachypnea and better oxygen saturation.
