The goals of small business owners differ from managers working for larger firms. Managers of larger firms seek security, prestige, high income and benefits. By contrast, small business owners have different objectives.
The personal objectives of starting a small business are
• Achieving independence is one of the primary objectives of small business owners. Independence refers to freedom from interference or control from supervisors. Small business owners want autonomy to exercise their initiative and ambition. This freedom results in innovation and greater flexibility which is one the virtues of small business.
• People start small business to gain additional income as owning a small business can provide opportunity to make a great deal of money and to take advantage of certain tax benefits.
• Help their families is one of the primary reasons for starting small business as there are many instances where student may return home to operate the family business so their parents can enjoy their retired life. They make take over the firm due to death of a family member or to help the family financially.
• Provide innovative products and services is one of the primary objectives to start a small business. Small firms produce twice new ideas and products compared to large firms. The strong drive to deliver innovative solutions to the customers is one the primary objectives of small business owner.
