American experiences with crime during last half century are as follows :
• The threat to the American way of life represented by illegal drugs and
• The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
During 1960s and 1970s , there was a substantial increase in "tradition" crime. There was a strong emphasis on " individual rights". This led to the identification of personal rights which was previously refused on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or disability.
The American criminal justice required to understand the root causes of violence and criminal offense. The social needs for controlling the undesirable actions and protecting obedient citizens from harm must have been recognized. In the most recent past, interest has increased in keeping a structured society, ensuring public safety, and providing for the rights of sufferers. Currently, the focus is on responsibility, with a "get tough on crime" attitude. Because of social frustration, the changes occurred during the past century in America. The system was incapable to prevent crimes. September 11, 2001 , increased conservatism in public policy.
