To test whether people who assume a role that gives them power differ in their tendency to adopt another person's visual perspective, Galinsky, Magee, Inesi, and Gruenfeld (2006) induced 57 undergraduate participants to adopt a high or low power perspective by recalling an incident from their lives in which they either had power over another person or another person had power over them. Later in the experiment, participants were asked to draw a capital E on their forehead with a marker. The E could be drawn in a selforiented or other-oriented way as shown below:

Of the 24 participants in the high power condition, 8 drew the E in the self-oriented way and 16 drew the E in an other-oriented way; of the 33 participants in the low power condition, 4 drew the E in the self-oriented way and 29 drew the E in an other-oriented way.
