WAYNE MANOR COMIX
Jared Wayne began buying, selling, and trading comic books in grade school. By the time he graduated from college, his collection filled his apartment and his parent's basement. He lived near Flagstaff, Arizona, and was well known in the community, having sold at nearly every comic book and science fiction convention in that university town. It was only natural for him to open a shop.
Jared opened a small shop in an old strip mall near the Northern Arizona University campus and a local high school. He called it Wayne Manor Comix. As a one-person operation, Jared stayed open only afternoons and weekends. He occasionally had a friend or one of his parents stay at the shop on convention weekends, while Jared ran his booth at the convention. Since this was maybe four to six weekends a year, he figured that his employing others required no paperwork.
It was at one of those conventions that Jared met Xandra Kent. It was love at first sight, and they were married six months later. Xandra worked at a dress shop during the week, and in the comic shop on weekends when Jared did his convention runs, so life-and Jared's paperwork-remained simple. Then Xandra announced she was pregnant. She had the baby, and they named him Bruce (what else would two comic loving parents call a kid named Wayne ).
Jared loves being around Bruce, and Xandra has suggested that Jared hire someone to work at the shop. That way, Jared would have time on weekends with the family. Jared likes the idea, and has several customers he trusts and who know comic books really well. He could hire one of them. The shop is making enough money that Jared thinks he can afford a part-time employee, but he does not know how to determine what a fair hourly wage would be or what would be the best way to train the new employee. He is also worried that there may be government requirements for a permanent part-time employee that might trip him up.
What kinds of things would a regular customer need to learn in order to be successful as an employee What would that suggest as skills Jared might want to make sure he finds in a successful candidate for the job
