What responsibilities does the top court in a federal system have
التوضيح
The United States Supreme Court is the highest court of authority in the United States. It plays an important role in imparting justice by hearing cases of original and appellate jurisdiction and also by keeping a check on the directives of the President of the United States if it violates the Constitution or law of the United States.
The United States Supreme Court has original jurisdiction to hear cases involving disputes between state governments or a state government and federal government.
The United States Supreme Court hears cases appealed from the court of appeals and also the state courts if it involves questions of federal law. The Supreme Court has discretionary power to select which case it wants to hear by issuing a writ of certiorari (where a higher court may order the lower court to submit before it the records of a case for judicial review).
The United States Supreme Court is the top court in the United States federal court system as it is the court of last resort in the United States. The responsibilities of the United States Supreme Court are stated below:
• It is responsible for hearing cases appealed from the Court of Appeals and the state courts.
• It is responsible for hearing cases that are originally filed before it if the cases involve dispute between state governments or a state government and the federal government.
• It is the final authority for disposing cases involving questions relating to the Constitution of the United States.
• It executes its discretionary power by selecting cases it wants to hear by granting writ of certiorari.
• It is responsible for keeping a check on the executive actions by disagreeing and striking down the declaration of the President of the United States, if it is in violation of the Constitution or laws of the United States.
