Tell the other person your good news as though it just happened.
Assess the listening skills below by giving specific examples of how the person did or did not do a good job of listening.
• What level of listening did he or she use (marginal, evaluative, or projective)? Explain.
• Was the person an empathic listener? Explain.
Assess the listener on the 13 active projective listening tips:
Turn to the tips on pages 162-163 and assess the person on each of the 13 tips, with examples of what was done well and what could be improved.
• Which response styles did the listener use (advising, diverting, probing, reassuring, or reflecting)?
Conclusion: The instructor leads a class discussion and/or makes concluding remarks.
Application: (2- 4 minutes): What did I learn from this experience? How will I use this knowledge in the future?
Sharing: Volunteers give their answers to the application section.
