Sea turtles are endangered as the result of many human activities. Their eggs and meat are harvested for food. Since females return to the same beaches where they hatched to lay their eggs, commercial development of nesting sites prevents turtles from coming ashore to lay their eggs. Also, many turtles are killed in the process of shrimp fishing.
