(a) Are composed of a large number of different types of molecules
(b) Can make a great many of the molecules found in the cell from simple precursors
(c) Have many different enzymes and therefore can make many molecules
(d) Contain unique molecules not normally found in bacte rial cells
(e) Lack many enzymes and must therefore be provided with many of the molecules they need for growth
