What does a filename indicate?
File is referred as a named collection of data stored on disk document. Every file has a name and some properties. After creation of the file, it can be edited, modified and saved as per requirement. Files can be organized by storing them in folders
• Every file is identified by its name.
• Every file has dot extension. The extension indicates the type of the file.
While naming a file there are some conventions to be followed.
• File name allows you to use 0 to 255 characters; don't use special characters for file names.
• Use some common and cache names so that it can be easily remember the things in a file through filename.
• Don't change the file extension.
• Preferably, file name should be meaningful. File name should be relative to file contents.
• A filename can be renamed if necessary.

What does a pencil symbol at the beginning of a record represent? What does a star symbol represent?
A pencil symbol in the beginning of the record represent that the particular record is updated or edited with data. It always appears in the beginning of the row. When you complete entering data in one record and if you press the tab key to go to next record, once when you start entering data pencil symbol moves to the current record.
• By default, pencil symbol appears in record selector portion of the table.
• That symbol is highlighted and the cell where you edit is highlighted in orange colour.
• Once when you move from the current record pencil symbol disappears from that record.
• It is also called as editing icon.
• When the pencil symbol appears the data have not saved in database table. Once when the symbol moves from that record the record is saved automatically into database table.
A star symbol always appears in record selector portion of the table which indicates next new blank row available to enter the data.

• When you click the new button in records group on the home tab, this symbol is highlighted in the next available row.

Is a file deleted from a compressed folder when you extract it?
It is better to compress a large file while sending because the compressed file occupies less space than uncompressed file.
• When the contents of the compressed file are extracted, a copy is displayed as uncompressed file in the specified location.
• There is no deletion of any data in the compression techniques.
• It is not possible to modify the compressed file. If the file is to be modified, the file is extracted and then the extracted file is modified. The compressed file remains the same.
• In Compression technique, there is no loss of data.
Data is not lost either when compressing the files or extracting the files.
• When the contents of the compressed file are extracted, a copy is displayed as uncompressed file in the specified location.
• There is no deletion of any data in the compression techniques.
