B. A patient fell off a ladder while on the job, spraining his left ankle and fracturing the right femur. In addition to the main code, what type of ICD-9 code is used to report his diagnosis?
It is to be noted that the ICD-9 codes are unique in nature so the two types of health problems or conditions associated with the same do not have a similar code.
The uniqueness of codes is helpful in maintaining accuracy. The chances of reporting false health conditions and situations can be avoided.
The ICD-9 code for endometrial biopsy is 68.13 and the ICD-9 code for pelvic ultrasound is 793.6. Such practices are done in order to assess the health conditions.
The ICD-9 code for sprain in left ankle is 845.00 and for fracture in right femur 821.00. It is to be noted that the main code for a situation of fall from ladder is W11.XXXA

The metropolitan health center covers the obstetrical department which is contracted with anchor health insurance. Surprise visiting of auditor request medical record of 20 patients. In the last 45 days, the company received a claim of a patient with a diagnosis of psychostimulants (969.7x) poisoning. Further investigation found that none of the patients has a diagnosis of poisoning but the company does not receive any clam of C-sections. This happened because of a coding error, the correct code should be 669.7x.
Several ramifications for the physician and patient can occur with the original inaccurate diagnosis code of poisoning by psychostimulants. The physician can be trapped in the medico-legal issue because of an inaccurate diagnosis of the patient. As the incorrect coding can lead to the health risk of the patient. Physicians have to pay a penalty if the incorrect coding system is used to diagnose the disease.
Similarly, the patient may be in trouble if he or she received the wrong diagnosis. Incorrect coding can lead to receive wrong treatment and medication which can lead to an impact on their health and wellbeing. Instant of improving health, the patient may be in trouble with receiving the wrong medication.
Hence, several consequences occur because of incorrect coding of disease or diagnosis.
