Gender-based violence manifests itself physically, emotionally, verbally, sexually, and financially and may include elements of threat, emotional abuse, isolation, financial abuse and control, sexual abuse, using children to gain control, and blame.

What are the basic costs of preventing violence against women?
The monetary costs of preventing violence against women are from creating legislation, providing law enforcement, educating people about violence against women, and providing social services to women who are in danger. The nonmonetary costs are the opportunity costs of using resources to fight violence against women that could be used in other ways.
