Deck 6: Nasal Cavity and Paranasal Sinuses
1
Which bones of the cranium contain the four paranasal sinuses?
Frontal, ethmoid, sphenoid, maxillary
2
Describe the role of pneumatization of the bones containing the sinuses.
Pneumatization helps to lighten the cranium and gives resonance to our voices.
3
What is the importance of the maxillary sinus to the dental clinician?
The maxillary sinuses and maxillary teeth share the same innervations; therefore, patients often mistake infections of the maxillary sinus for problems with the maxillary molar teeth. Also, dental clinicians must be aware of the thinness of the bone separating the sinus from the roots of the maxillary molars when repairing or extracting these teeth.
