Exercise 6
Case Study 11.2: Don't Call Him Boss
Lael and Waheid both work for a small software development firm. Lael had strongly objected to hiring of Waheid. The problem between the two started when their manager, Barbara, left to start her own company. As Barbara was leaving, Lael had demanded that it was to be clear that she would not take orders from Waheid. But, Waheid was reviewing everyone's job in detail. He also sent out emails, signing himself as project director. Lael feels that slowly Waheid is taking over the position of Boss. Waheid explains his behavior by saying that he doesn't want power. He just wanted to operate the team efficiently.
-What could you do to settle the conflict in this case? See if you can come up with more than one solution.
