Our earth is faced with immense ecological problems that stem from human overpopulation. Developing countries have a greater proportion of individuals in reproductive age classes, and improved nutrition and health care have resulted in a population explosion. The earth's population is expected to reach 10.9 billion by 2100. Overpopulation has taxed earth's resources. Biodiversity loss, nitrogen cycling, phosphorus cycling, climate change, land use, ocean acidification, freshwater use, and ozone depletion all present very difficult problems societies must face to safeguard human survival.
What, if anything, is encouraging regarding the previous discussion of our ecological problems?
