List six of the twelve components of nonverbal language.
Explanation
Throughout the day we are communicating something or the other in one way or the other. We usually think that communication is only by speech/verbal/words but, we're wrong, we can communicate by various means apart from verbal communication or speech. There are different ways by which we can communicate non-verbally they are gestures, body language, attire, gait etc.
There are 12 components of non - verbal ways of communication also known as non-verbal languages. They are Kinesics, Proxemics, Haptics, Oculesics, Chronemics, Olfactics, Adornment, Posture, Locomotion, Sound symbols, Silence, and Vocalics. These are the various ways of non-verbal communication and out of these we can see a few most frequently used non-verbal communication in detail below.
Kinesics- this kind of communication includes, involuntary, absentminded habits that are done even without the consciousness of the brain and they are- gestures, tapping of the leg, quick winking/blinking of the eyelids, drumming, fidgeting with the hair, rotation of a key ring or chain etc.
Haptics- the communication of touch, a handshake shows a social behavior, a pat on the shoulder means assurance, a hug shows love, a kiss shows tender love, intimacy and romance etc.
Oculesics- this means eye contact, some who are confident always look into the eye while speaking while those who are shy and timid see away from the person speaking to them. There are some who are arrogant these people too look into the eyes and speak but their look is fierce and angry unlike the confident person.
Chronemics- this is the usage of time, talking vert fast shows nervousness or being in a hurry, talking very slowly means being calculative, secretive, and sometimes relaxed too pausing quite often too shows being careful of the words spoken lest they spill something unnecessarily.
Adornment- people use a lot of jewelry; accessories, etc. convey that they're modern. People using old fashioned jewelry show that they're interested in antiques and those who use exclusively modern jewelry show that they're updated and not old fashioned.
Posture- posture speaks a lot too, a person who is genuinely interested in the conversation will lean forward so as to pay more attention to what is being said. And the one who is uninterested will sit back and be aloof these are the most common non-verbal ways of communication.
