Blaine was employed by the Acme Corporation to repair air conditioners. While working at an office one day, Blaine saw a secretary suffer a heart attack. He called for medical help. He could have called his employer for authorization but failed to do so. When the bill arrived for the medical services and the secretary could not pay for them, the medical service company billed Acme Corporation, which refused to pay on the grounds that Blaine was not authorized to obtain such services.
