When actress Brooke Shields was 10, she posed nude in a bathtub for a series of photographs taken by Gary Gross for Playboy Press. Shields's mother signed a consent form that gave Gross the right to use the photos at any time for any purpose. The pictures were used several times, including use in a book by Shields about her life. When she was 17, Shields attempted to stop additional use of the photos by disaffirming the consent. Gross defended by citing a New York statute that allowed parents to give consent for minor models. Did New York's statute deny Shields her common law right to disaffirm the contract?
