Edition 14ISBN: 978-0078029110 Exercise 13
Motivation Maintenance
This exercise is designed to illustrate the motivation-maintenance theory in terms of your personal experiences.
1. Think of a time when you were extremely motivated or "turned on" by a job (the instance could have taken place yesterday or several years ago and it could have been on a full- or part-time job) and write a brief two- or three-sentence description of the situation. After you have completed the description, list the reasons this situation had a motivational effect on you. Don't sign your name, but do pass your paper forward.
2. After completing the above, repeat the same procedure for a situation that was highly demotivating. After all the papers have been passed forward, your instructor will help you analyze them.
