Fenchel and Finlay (2004) state that small organisms (less than 1 mm in length) tend to occur everywhere around the globe, if their habitat requirements are met. In this case evolutionary history is not a possible explanation for observed geographical distributions. Is this for large organisms as well? Are there any microorganisms for which this statement is not correct?
