Coyotes are commonly stated to be important predators of sage grouse in western United States. But coyotes also prey on foxes, badgers, and ground squirrels, all of which also prey on sage grouse nests of chicks. How could you decide if coyote control would be a benefit or a detriment to the conservation of sage grouse? Mezquida et al. (2006) discuss this problem.
