Katherine Hunter prides herself on being a wise consumer and cautiously examines the claims by manufacturers for all her purchases. She researches everything she buys, such as automobiles, household appliances, and medications. Recently, she has begun to seriously consider assertions made by the advertisements for va rious types of antacids. Most brands claim to be the most efficient in relieving the symptoms of indigestion. Others say that their brand is the most potent antacid available without a prescription. Some products claim that they not only relieve heartburn, but also supply the body with needed vitamins and minerals. When purchasing an OTC medication, all Katherine wants is something that will work quickly with few adverse effects.
How would you teach Katherine the difference between potency and efficacy?
