This chapter presents data on the overall state of unemployment. But the Bureau of Labor Statistics also breaks down unemployment data by race and gender. Visit the BLS website at www.bls.gov and compare unemployment rates and labor force participation rates for men and women. Then make the same comparison for whites, blacks, Hispanics, and Asians. What are the big differences in the data? Can you think of anything that might account for those differences?
