In 1999, scientists discovered a woolly mammoth that had been frozen in glacial ice for the past 20,000 years. They thawed it very carefully so they could use its DNA to clone a woolly mammoth. It turns out there was not enough preserved material to work with. They plan to try again the next time a frozen woolly mammoth comes along. Reflect on Section 13.4, then speculate on the pros and cons of cloning an extinct animal.
