Barbara Ehrenreich, author of Nickel and Dimed, criticized Wal-Mart in a New York Times column. Ardent capitalist Sally Pipes summarized Ehrenreich's position:
This could be the central battle of the 21st century: Earth People vs. the Wal- Martians," Ehrenreich wrote. "No one knows exactly when the pod landed on our planet," but when it did Wal-Mart began to experience "recklessly metastatic growth." Wal-Mart, contends Ehrenreich, is "a creature afflicted with the appetite of a starved hyena." 126
a. Ehrenreich certainly is not alone in complaining about Wal-Mart. List some of those criticisms.
