Recent global surveys document increasing anti-American sentiments around the globe. For example, between 2002 and 2005, favorable attitudes toward the American people declined in nine of 12 leading countries for which long-term data are available. Similarly, when asked in a 2005 survey of 16 countries where a young person should go to lead a good life, no more than 10 percent of those responding in 13 of the countries recommended the United States.
