Leadership and management are closely related terms, yet different. All managers are not leaders. There are certain fundamental differences between a leader and a manager. Leaders are known for qualities like inspiring others, working for the development of the others too, doing the things in an innovative way, etc. Managers mostly try to manage and control the existing things, are more process-focused, etc.
The current case is about a CEO of a successful firm. He is not considered to be a typical CEO. He can be classified as a leader based on the following:
• A leader tries to follow the unconventional paths and always innovate. He was not risk-averse and tried various lucrative business ideas. Also, as a student he started his own magazine.
• He supported others to realize their ambitions and become successful. It is the sign of a true leader to help others develop.
• His business approach too was nontraditional. Unlike other firms, he did not have big offices, large staff, and many board meetings. Instead, he has kept each enterprise small and has worked on empowering people to drive the enterprise to success.
• A leader has the ability to be creative and encourage his followers to be creative. He always supported creative ideas of his staff and encouraged them to try something new.
