Nevada in 2013 became the first state to legalize and offer online gambling. Nevada limits its online gaming to poker, but other states, including New Jersey, are expected to follow with a full array of lawful, online offerings. The federal government is considering legislation to achieve a uniform, national policy that is expected to allow poker but forbid, under federal law, other forms of online gambling. Currently the unauthorized online gambling market in the United States is estimated at about $4 billion.
