Topic sentence: Attila the Hun was a fierce and bloody ruler.
_____ a. After he became king of the Huns (A.D. 434), a people who
lived in an area of eastern Europe that approximates the site of modern Hungary, Attila murdered his brother and coruler, Bleda. Then he wreaked havoc on eastern and central Europe, conquering many peoples who lived in that area, which now includes Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, and Romania. In 450, he invaded Gaul (now France), which was a Roman province, and later Italy, where he killed thousands of people, wiped out several villages and small cities, and burned farmland.
______ b. Attila became king of the Huns in the fifth century. The Huns
lived in central Europe. Shortly after taking the throne, he killed his brother. Then he attacked his neighbors, conquering many of the people around him. He also invaded France and Italy, where he killed thousands of others and caused much destruction.
